2013 Buick Encore nets strong IIHS

After being crushed from every which way and rolled over like a labrador, coach factory outlet, the 2013 Buick Encore has been named a Top Safety Pick by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. To earn the accolade, a vehicle must achieve the highest rating of "Good" in each of the institute's four main crash tests: Front Moderate Overlap, Side, Rollover and Rear. The Encore aced those four tests with "Good" ratings, chi flat iron, but missed out on the coveted Top Safety Pick+ designation by receiving a Poor rating in the institute's new Front Small Overlap test. To be named a Top Safety Pick+, the Encore would need to score at least an "Acceptable" rating in the new test, as well as "Good" in all four original crash tests.

Despite the miss, toms outlet, the Encore joins the Enclave, LaCrosse, Verano and Regal as Top Safety Picks all. If you count only the Encore with all wheel drive, then all five Buicks have also earned five star overall ratings from the National Highway Traffic Safety Adminstration, making Buick one of the few manufacturers to offer a full lineup with high scores from both safety rating organizations.

The front wheel drive Encore, marc by marc jacobs, despite performing equally as well as the all wheel drive version in NHTSA's crash tests, only earned four stars overall. As far as we can tell, the discrepancy between the two is because some safety equipment, like Forward Collision Warning and Lane Departure Assist, polo ralph lauren, are optional features on the FWD Encore and standard on the AWD model.

All five models in luxury brand's showroom now share IIHS Top Safety Pick designation

DETROIT The 2013 Encore luxury small crossover brings a smaller footprint and high efficiency to the Buick showroom, but the brand's newest model maintains the commitment to safety, joining all other current Buicks as an Insurance Institute for Highway Safety 2013 Top Safety Pick. The Encore with all wheel drive also received a 5 star Overall Vehicle Score for safety from the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration.

With every model sharing the IIHS designation, Buick is one of just a few brands with a full line of 2013 Top Safety Picks. The Verano, Regal, LaCrosse and Enclave all have a NHTSA 5 star overall rating.

The IIHS tests vehicles to determine occupant protection in front, side, and rollover crashes, and specifically tests seats and head restraints for neck protection in rear impact crashes. To earn a 2013 Top Safety Pick designation, a vehicle must be rated "good" in all four tests.

NHTSA tests for its 5 star safety ratings program include front, side and rollover testing, along with a side pole test simulating a 20 mph side impact crash into a 10 inch diameter pole or tree at a 75 degree angle just behind the A pillar on the driver's side.

The Encore has 10 standard air bags, a standard Rear Vision Camera and the security of OnStar a combination unmatched by any competitor. In a rollover crash, sensors in the vehicle deploy standard head curtain air bags prior to impact and leave them inflated for an extended period.

Encore's advanced body structure is comprised of more than 60 percent high strength steel that provides a protective safety cage around occupants. Other safety measures include standard four wheel disc brakes with ABS, panic brake override, StabiliTrak electronic stability control, and a collapsible pedal system that reduces the risk of leg injury.

Available active safety features for the 2013 Encore include Forward Collision Alert and Lane Departure Warning, lululemon canada, a pair of technologies that use a single forward looking camera to read traffic patterns and lane markers on the road ahead. Visual warnings and audible tones alert the driver to unsignalled lane changes or a slowed vehicle.

"Safety is a top priority in Buick's product renaissance, coach outlet store, as evidenced by receiving these latest safety accolades for Encore," said Gay Kent, GM executive director of Vehicle Safety. "Our customers can have confidence in the safety performance of every Buick for sale today."Would never trade my Suburban for that euro econo box mini car. Electric golf carts arrived at the first courses to use them in 1951. Merle Williams from Reading, valentino, California produced the first electric golf carts using knowledge he attained from electric cars produced during the World War Two gasoline rationing period. In 1954 E Z GO and LEKTRO began production and in 1955 Cushman began production. Harley Davidson even started making golf carts in 1963. Gas golf carts came upon the scene in 1971 and immediately became a huge hit. Currently you will see both gas and electric carts at most golf courses.

A standard golf cart is set up to carry two golfers and two golf bags on a platform at the rear of the cart. Most carts have a roof and front windshield. If you are into cold weather golf you can find carts with enclosures. The enclosures are usually made of flexible heavy duty plastic and have a door with a window on each side that closes snugly with velcro. The last few years propane gas "cart heaters" have also been available. I can tell you from experience that they produce a lot of heat. You can ride down the cart path when it's freezing outside and inside the cart it will be toasty warm. They come with a small propane tank attached that fits in the cup holder in the golf cart. Another nice add on is a convertible bag cover attached to the rear of the golf cart's roof. It is easy to quickly put it up or down, louis vuitton outlet, and will keep the rain off the clubs and features a clear vinyl window. Another nice feature available at some golf courses is the GPS system, lulu lemon, which will tell you how far it is in yards to the pin.

There are also options available like the cargo box which is mounted to the cart in the rear, true religion, turning the cart into a utility vehicle. The cargo boxes are usually about 2 1/2 feet wide and from three to four feet long. They are great for golf course maintenence, jerseys, or around the homestead. Another option is a rear facing seat which then turns the golf cart into a small vehicle which seats three passengers and the driver. These are usually utilized for hotel or large motel guest transportation. Who can forget the pink golf cart used in the television series "Fantasy Island"?

The last subject I want to touch on is the monster cart. Usually monster carts are brightly and decoratively painted, mont blanc, and have any number of option add ons like raiser kits, which bring the height of the cart up,cheap oakley, racey wheel kits and large tires, lights front and rear, toms shoes, horns, coach factory outlet, a number of front and/or rear bumper configurations, ghd straighteners, and custom bodies and interiors are readily available.

This settlement on Tatooine sorry, this "totally a home on Earth, for real" called the Bubble Palace was conceived in the 1970s by architect Antti Lovag. He was commissioned to design the home near Tourrettes sur Loup in France by an eccentric wealthy industrialist, oakley, but when the deal fell through, juicy couture outlet, designer Pierre Cardin, the fashion guru who created the bubble dress, took on the house in 1989. That's right: Not one, but two separate people not only immediately loved the idea of living in a bubble bath but also were actually in the position to finance said sprawling bubble compound.

All the rooms in the villa are round, with no straight edges anywhere in the house not even the beds. Cardin says it's because, "The circle is my symbol; the sphere represents the creation of the world and the mother's womb. Holes, cones, oakley, breasts I've always used them in my designs." The architect who built the house says it's because straight lines are "an aggression against nature . human beings have confined themselves to cubes full of dead ends and angles that impede our movement and break our harmony."

This is just one example of the typical dwelling used by the Korowai tribe of New Guinea, montblanc, who had no idea the outside world even existed until 1970. Instead of building treehouses 10 feet off the ground for their kids, stalling out halfway through and just living with a plank in their trees for the next few decades, the Korowai build their treehouses like real men: To the finish, and up to 165 feet in the air. They do this to avoid predators, air max one, floods and ant swarms, and also because it just looks . so awesome.

Dai Haifei is a Chinese architect. He works for a company whose slogan is "Our Buildings Are Eggs Laid by City," and apparently nothing was lost in translation there seeing as how Dai now lives in an egg shaped house small enough to fit on the sidewalk.

He built this pod on a bamboo frame insulated with wood chips, with bags of sprouting grass on the outside. Total Cost: $964. Though quite small, the pod is big enough to house a bed, a water tank, a night table and a crushing sense of claustrophobia. Dai says he typically works at his architectural firm until midnight and only uses his home for sleep anyway, insanity, allowing him to save a ton of money that he can hopefully use one day to escape that incredibly sad sounding existence.

The aristocracy in pre revolutionary France had way too much time, way too much money and by the looks of things, way too much laudanum. The hot new thing to do as a drug addled European hedonist back in the day was build yourself a themed garden, like the Desert de Retz, constructed by aristocrat Francois Nicolas Henri Racine de Monville. The centerpiece was the Broken Column mansion, coach outlet, designed to look like it was all that remained of a column from a gargantuan, destroyed, ancient temple.

ugg Baggers can't be choosers

Baggers can't be choosers

Yes, indeed a test of the bagger's craft, a high speed challenge to pack the best bag in the shortest time. It will be held in front of an awestruck public Saturday at the Mall of America, noon to 1:30,ugg, in the court by Macy's.

"I don't think any of us would win that," said the clerk, cheap sunglasses, looking around the store. The idea that there was a world of competitive bagging unmanned him, somehow. It's like learning that some clerks can key in the code for apples with their left hand while picking up the can of Pam with their right. Whoa: ninjas.

Is betting allowed? Not since the controversial match of 1957,chi hair, when Red Owl threw the contest by intentionally putting the conspicuous bunch of celery upside down, the north face, an instant disqualification.

Have they ever stopped a match? Once, in 1999,cheap ray ban, when a down on his luck Mike Tyson bit off an ear (of corn).

Is there a plastic event? Sure, just like there's a beer frame in pro bowling, or a whiffle ball inning in Major League Baseball. No, there's no plastic. There's no art in plastic.

Art? you scoff. Bagging is not an art, you say. It does not require 15 years of apprenticeship at the feet of a master. But it should. Teach me to bag, sir! I have come from the provinces to learn in your studio. Very well, montre pas cher, grasshopper. Take this small bottle of olives. Put it in this bag, tiffanys, then take it out. Repeat until I tell you to stop.

A year later: "Master, I have put the olives in. I have taken the olives out. Please let me learn how to judge whether the meat shall be wrapped in plastic, even though it is wrapped in plastic already. Mysteries such as these consume me."

Olives in, my impatient friend. Olives out.

And then one day a decade later, the acolyte is bagging a huge order, the items tumbling down the belt in confusing profusion. Kleenex, strawberries, a discus of cold, solid pizza. There's no rhyme or reason, no order and suddenly he has to rebalance the bag. He deftly plucks the olives from one bag and moves them to another, by instinct. Without a second thought.

He hears the master's voice: You have learned well, my son.

I asked Justin, who bags at Kowalski's on Lyndale Avenue S., to explain the discipline.

"Time, structure and weight," he said. "And attitude a smile for the customer." Ah,soccer shoes, the intangibles. But the rest are simple.

Time is obvious: Not saying the bagger should move so fast that his arms are like hummingbird wings, but when you see the mold actually start to form on the cheese, chanel outlet, let's step it up, OK?

Structure is key: A good bagger frames the paper sack, gives it walls and a foundation, arranges by density; a bad bagger puts the potato chips at the bottom and drops a can of pasta sauce on top. Then bananas. Then maybe a Duraflame log. Oh, and let me space out all the frozens so they're in four bags, instead of putting them together where they can consolidate their coldness and work together.

And weight: Obviously, you don't want the bag handles coming apart because it's overstuffed and they used cat spit to glue the handles on. But this leads to the great Milk Controversy, nike air, which could split the bagging world right down the middle.

I know it has a handle. But I want to get everything inside the house in one trip: two bags per forearm, one 12 pack of soda per hand, grunting up the stairs like Rocky on some absurd old school training exercise. Put the milk bladders in plastic bags, and I can thread my arms through the handles and use my back to carry them. If I have to, I'll put the sacks of potatoes on the sled in the garage and run the tow rope around my waist, and kick the big bottle of dishwashing detergent up the steps. Two trips is a sign of failure.
